Tres was born in Orlando, Florida in 1957 and later moved to Alabama. He grew up in Birmingham and received a bachelor’s degree in English and later a masters in biochemistry from the University of Alabama. In 1998, after working as a biochemist for 20 years, Tres became very unhappy with his career and the direction of his life. He returned to his native south and after a visit to the folk artist R. A Miller and looking at a book on Alabama folk artist, that he decided to make some radical changes in his life. He spent the next months visiting folk artist across the south learning from their wisdom. This gave Tres a new vision for his life and started the spiritual journey he continues through his art production. Tres has been a part of exhibitions across the southeast, Japan and California. A main theme of his work is to represent the different faces of love using common materials like old wood, tar paper and house paint. Tres has stated, when he is painting, “these are the times I feels closest to God and divine love”. This is painted on tar paper 18"X36" ready to hang, with hanger on back and was part of a Civil Rights Mural called Hallelujah.
