The announcement of Ford GT is one of the biggest revolutions of the automobile industry. While all the others are planning for it till now, Ford like always who stays ahead of technological skills has already declared it.
When Ford Motor, the automobile manufacturer promised to deliver a supercar with 440kW power, it was too astonishing for the world. However, Ford has already expanded our expectations with the announcement of the specifications for the 2017 Ford GT edition. This car is powered by a 3.5-liter twin turbo V6 engine with EcoBoost technology, and the model can easily deliver up to 647 horsepower along with 550lb feet of maximum torque. As the total weight of the vehicle is much lower, it gives an added boost. The weight of the car as per the makers claim 3054 lbs and can reach a top speed of 216 miles per hour. The car uses 20-inch Michelin Pilot Sports Cup 2 rubber wheels that comes with carbon ceramic braking. The powertrain is attached to a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox for transmission. That is enough to impress a car lover!
Automakers have been making the shift to electric assist in recent years to make cars more energy efficient and easier to equip with computer-controlled self-steering systems. Skilled drivers though like their own involvement and brands like Ferrari and McLaren have stuck with it for just this reason. The GT has a gigantic rear wing which moves to reduce drag and increase the downforce and act as an air brake while it is needed. The active suspension system of GT can also lower the ride height by 15mm when it is in a special Track mode to further improve its handling.
Though exactly how the suspension adjustment works is not yet revealed by Ford Performance Chief Engineer Jamal Hameedi, but it is known that it involves a rocker and two springs.
The Competition and Comparison
The 2017 Ford GT is going to give a tough competition to the Ferrari 488GTB and the McLaren 675LT. The McLaren car weights less and is crowned with a more powerful engine under the hood. The McLaren 675LT, on the other hand, is powered by a 3.5-liter twin turbo V8 engine that produces 666 horsepower with 516 lb feet of maximum torque. The top speed of the car is pegged at 205 miles per hour, and it weights about 2982lbs. The Ford 488GTB is charged with 660 horsepower with 561 lb feet of torque and has a top speed of 205 miles per hour.
The production of the GT is being handled by Canada’s Multimatic which is based in Markham, Ontario. As per the news from the makers, the cars are being built at a rate of 250 per year, and the first samples have already been delivered. Along with the 500 GTs already sold, there has a list of 6,006 names who want to buy the next 500.
